I have a bunch of assets I’d like to use in my games, can I import them to Merlin?
If you can open them in Unreal Editor, you can import them into Merlin.
Do I need to own Foundry to run Merlin?
Merlin works without Foundry. To host a game with Foundry features, you need a Foundry license.
What does running Foundry add to Merlin?
Basically everything that’s in a character sheet in Foundry – inventory, stats, buffs, spells etc. handled by your chosen system. Merlin by itself handles line of sight, AOEs, environment destruction etc. and can be used to manually run a game without Foundry’s automation.
Can we create our own maps and assets for Merlin and sell them?
That’s the idea. Same business model as Foundry.
Is this a mod for Foundry, a repackaging of the Unreal Editor with Foundry integration, neither, or both?
It’s a standalone program built with Unreal Engine. You can use Unreal Editor or our Merlin SDK (which is an Unreal Editor build with Merlin-specific integrations added) to create maps/ prepare assets etc. to export to Merlin. The Foundry integration works like this: you can connect to a running Foundry server from inside Merlin to get access to character sheets etc.
I don’t have time to use Unreal Engine to make a map for my game
We plan to sell pre-prepared 3D adventures for use with Merlin, and for other developers to be able to do the same. We don’t expect that most GMs will want to spend time crafting entire Unreal levels for their Sunday game session, but you might enjoy having a ready-built 3D environment to explore and destroy stuff in.
